Description
Studio portrait of 719 Private (Pte) Hugh Everett Miller, 43rd Battalion. A labourer from Oodla Wirra, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Adelaide on 9 June 1916 aboard HMAT Afric for Marseilles, France, and then to England for training. Pte Miller joined his unit on the Western Front, France, during late November 1916. He was wounded in action near Messines, Belgium, on 4 July 1917 and was evacuated to England for treatment and recuperation before rejoining his battalion near Amiens France in May 1918. Pte Miller was killed in action near Perrone, France, on 1 September 1918. He was aged 23 years.
