Studio portrait of 835 Private (Pte) Alexander Donaldson, 11th Light Horse. Pte Donaldson was a labourer of Longreach, Queensland, before he enlisted at the age of 26. His unit embarked from Sydney for Egypt aboard HMAT Shropshire (A9) on 20 August 1915. He transferred to the 5th Light Horse Regiment for a time and served at Gallipoli, rejoining his original unit in Egypt on 15 January 1916. Pte Donaldson was killed in action at Semakh on 25 September 1918. His body is interred at Haifa War Cemetery.
