Description
Informal portrait of 590 Private (Pte) Archibald Stratford Glen with his mother, Agnes Glen, presumably at the family home in Walpeup, Victoria. A farmer prior to enlistment, Pte Glen embarked with the 14th Battalion E Company on 22 December 1914 aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38). Pte Glen was promoted several times over the course of his service in the Middle East and in France, achieving the rank of Lance Sergeant (L Sgt) in 1917. L Sgt Glen fought in the first attack at Bullecourt on 11 April 1917. Following this attack L Sgt Glen was reported missing and later confirmed killed. He is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
