Description

A group of fifteen unidentified prisoners of war (POW), mostly Russians, outside a canvas-walled building at Güstrow POW camp, Germany. The handwritten note on the reverse of the image reads: "Portion of the camp of Güstrow - these particular huts were most uncomfortable & were used as "punishment block". The prisoners in front are mostly Russians, newly-captured. The picture was taken in 1917." One of a series of 157 images from the collection of 4199 Sergeant William Charles Groves, 14th Battalion, an Australian prisoner of war held at Güstrow POW camp in Germany.
