The graves of three members of the 7th Light Horse Regiment in the Gaza Cemetery. From left to right: 2375 Trooper (Tpr) Percy James Sheridan Poidevin; 1517 Tpr William Norman Smith; 2323 Tpr John Thomas Campbell. Tpr Poidevin, a carpenter from Collector, NSW prior to enlistment, embarked with the 16th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Palermo on 18 April 1916. On 9 November 1917 he was killed in action, aged 36, and was buried near Es Suafirel Sharbyie, Palestine. Tpr Smith, a labourer from Hermidale, NSW prior to enlistment, embarked with the 11th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Euripides on 2 November 1915. On 13 November 1917, aged 25, he died of wounds received in action and was buried in the village of Suafir Es Sherkrye, Syria. Pte Campbell, a farmer from Nowra, NSW prior to enlistment embarked with the 16th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Palermo on 18 April 1916. On 16 November 1917 he was killed in action, aged 19, and was also buried in the village of Suafir Es Sherkrye, Syria. Following the Armistice their graves were exhumed and their remains re-interred in the Gaza War Cemetery, Palestine. Tpr Campbell's brother 3364 Private Harry William Campbell was later killed in France on 24 April 1918.
