Aisbett, Harold Edward (Private, b.1896 - d.?)
Collection relating to the First World War service of 1208 Private Harold Edward Aisbett, 39 Battalion. Collection consists of an original handwritten diary (in an excercise book), titled 'A short record of dates, events and happenings during my three years service abroad, H E Aisbett'. The diary spans the period May 1916 to February 1919 and covers topics such as: embarkation, the voyage to England including a stop in South Africa, training at Lark Hill Camp, the voyage to France and Belgium in November 1916, the Battle of Messines in June 1917 where he was wounded and subsequently evacuated to England, his return to France in March 1918, the signing of the armistice, and return to Australia in early 1919. The back of the diary includes a number of poems and a list of 39th Battalion officers.
