Studio portrait of 1887 Private (Pte) Walter Bryant, 57th Battalion, of South Morang, Vic. A labourer prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 3rd Reinforcements aboard HMAT Ajana (A31) from Melbourne on 8 July 1916. Bryant was taken on strength and transferred to the 59th Battalion on 26 October 1917. Pte Bryant served on the Western Front and was killed in action in France on 2 September 1918; he was 21 years of age.
