Description

Studio portrait of 3889 Private (Pte) James Thomas Paterson (Patterson), 49th Battalion and wife Elizabeth Paterson (nee Cahill) on their wedding day. A farmer from Wallumbilla, Qld, with two years service in the Citizen's Military Force (CMF), Paterson enlisted on 31 August 1915. He embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Wandilla (A62) with the 9th Reinforcements of the 25th Battalion on 31 January 1916, and on 2 February 1916 joined the 49th Battalion. Pte Paterson died of wounds on 5 April 1917, aged 28, and is buried at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
