Studio portrait of 4193 Private (Pte) Walter Ernest Holman, 10th Battalion. A farmer from St Peters, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 13th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 11 January 1916 aboard HMAT Borda (A30) for Egypt. On 29 February 1916 he was transferred to the 50th Battalion which relocated to the Western Front France in early June 1916. Pte Holman was killed in action on 2 April 1917 during the attack on the village of Noreuil. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was aged 30 years.
