Description

Portrait of 3405 Acting Corporal Gomer Maslin, 10th Battalion from Westbourne, South Australia. A 22 year old clerk prior to enlisting on 27 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 11th Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion from Adelaide on 27 October 1915 aboard HMAT Benalla. Shortly after arriving in Egypt, he transferred to the 50th Battalion and reverted to the rank of Private. However, two months later, he was promoted to Lance Corporal and after arriving in France in June, was made a Temporary Corporal in August 1916. After being wounded in action in France on 4 September 1916, he recovered and returned to his battalion a month later. He was promoted to Corporal on 19 October 1916 and to Sergeant (Sgt) on 23 November 1916. After being wounded in action at Bernafay, France on 2 February 1917, he was evacuated to a casualty clearing station where he died of his wounds on 7 February 1917. Sgt Maslin is buried in the Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
