Description

Studio portrait of 2931 Private (Pte) Harold Hollis, 50th Battalion from Exeter, South Australia. A 26 year old butcher prior to enlisting on 18 September 1916, he embarked for overseas with 7th Reinforcements of the 50th Battalion from Adelaide on 6 November 1916 aboard HMAT Afric. Following further training in England, he arrived in France and joined the 50th Battalion on 18 March 1917. After being wounded in action at Noreuil on 2 April 1917, he was evacuated for medical treatment and died from his wounds on 14 April 1917. Pte Hollis is buried in the St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.
