Studio portrait of 3713 Private (Pte) Alfred Charles Keays, 16th Battalion, of Petersburg, SA. A boilermaker prior to enlisting in August 1915, Pte Keays embarked from Adelaide with the 12th Reinforcements on board RMS Malwa on 2 December 1915. He was transferred to the 48th Battalion during training in Egypt. Pte Keays was killed in action in France on 14 August 1916. He was 31 years of age.
