Studio portrait of 4196A Pte Thomas William Hornby, 4th (later 2nd) Battalion, of Rockdale, Sydney, NSW, son of William and Mary Jane Hornby, of Hamilton, NSW. A boilermaker prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 20 December 1915. He was killed in action on 9 April 1917 in France, aged 26. He is buried in the Hermies Hill British Cemetery, France.
