Studio portrait of 5417 Private (Pte) Sydney Henry Turpin, 26th Battalion, of Southport, Qld. A labourer prior to enlisting in February 1916, Pte Turpin embarked from Brisbane with the 14th Reinforcements on board HMAT Itonus (A50) on 8 August 1916. He was killed in action at Messines, Belgium, on 2 April 1918. Pte Turpin was 26 years of age.
