Description

Collection relating to the First World War service of Corporal Pierce William Richard Coleman, Headquarters Staff, Liverpool Camp, 1915-1916.

Wallet 1 of 1 - Collection consists of two typed letters Coleman wrote to his aunt while he was serving with the Headquarters Staff at the army training camp in Liverpool, Sydney. In the first letter, Coleman discusses his work on the headquarters staff, the men training in the camp, his desire to be posted overseas, the social pressure for men to enlist, dating, and of his mother’s opposition to him serving outside of Australia. In his second letter, written in January 1916 (but erroneously dated 1915), Coleman writes of his hope to be posted in charge of the stores of a troopship, describes his Christmas and New Year and of attending the theatre, and discusses visiting friends and acquaintances while on leave in Mudgee, New South Wales.
