Studio portrait of Lieutenant Commander (Lt Cdr) Frank Edmund (or Edmond) Getting, RAN. Lt Cdr Getting enlisted as a Cadet Midshipman on 31 December 1912 and established a long career in the RAN with a series of promotions through the ranks. In June 1942 with the rank of Captain, he assumed command of HMAS Canberra. On 9 August 1942 Captain Getting was killed in action when the Canberra was sunk off Savo Island in the Battle of Guadalcanal.
