Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a diary and a letter related to Cairnduff's service with 3 Signal Troop in Egypt and on Gallipoli during the First World War. The diary contains regular entries throughout 1915. Cairnduff writes about his voyage to Egypt, the sea conditions and weather, boredom, training and duties in the Egyptian desert, visiting Cairo, Alexandria and the pyramids, and tensions with his officer. He also describes deploying to Gallipoli from May 1915, the situation at Quinn's Post and Walker's Ridge, coming under shrapnel fire and high explosve shells, cooking and food rations, falling ill, and being admitted to hospital. The letter, dated 20 April 1916, was written by Cairnduff to his son Wall. He writes that he is in camp, is glad that Wall is doing well, and that his horse has just given birth.
