Description

recto: An ink sketch of a watermill and rear building on a river, with a bridge to the left. This is a scene from Merck Saint Liévin; a commune in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France, close to Fauquembergues. It lies about 10 miles southwest of Saint Omer, and the river Aa runs through it. It has an eighteenth century mill and the church of Saint Omer, which dates from the seventeenth century.
verso: This page contains a letter heading for "The Standard Publishing Co.", which has a small scene to the left of the text of a man at a writing desk with three books looking out his window, and a small scene to the right of the text of a family reading by the fireplace. Below this letter heading is a heading from a school newsletter "The Scotch Collegian- Old Boys' Column". Included in this is a drawing to the left of a burning lamp on a pedestal, and a marching soldier carrying a sword in his right hand and a union jack in his left hand.
