Studio portrait of 2470 Private (Pte) Ernest Leslie Clifford Parker (seated) and 2373 Pte Alexander Benson, both of 46th Battalion. They enlisted together on 22 April 1916 and embarked from Melbourne, Vic, on board HMAT Port Sydney on 7 September 1916. Pte Parker was killed in action on the 11 April 1917 at the first battle of Bullecourt, France. His name is recorded on the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France. Pte Benson was wounded in same battle and after rejoining his battalion was killed in action on 11 October 1917 at the 3rd battle of Ypres, Belgium, aged 26. His name is recorded on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
