Description
Studio portrait of 2718 Pte (later L Cpl) Walter Cecil Cruickshanks, 2nd Battalion, of Corrimal, NSW, son of Walter George and Sarah Louisa Cruickshanks. A mechanic prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Runic (A54) on 9 August 1915. He was killed in action at Pozieres, France, on 25 July 1916, aged 24. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
