Informal portrait of Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Peter Kershaw RAAF and Captain (Capt) Amanda ...
Informal portrait of Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Peter Kershaw RAAF and Captain (Capt) Amanda (Mandy) Hinks who met during overseas service in 2002. Flt Lt Kershaw was deployed to Banja Luka in Northern Bosnia in 2003, assisting with NATO reconstruction efforts following the conflicts of the 1990s. One evening he met Captain Amanda Hinks, a British logistics officer, in the Officers' Mess, and the couple regularly began meeting for meals. Photographed on a visit to Prnjavor Cultural Centre, the couple remained in contact after Capt Hinks' rotation to Bosnia had finished. In 2004 he proposed to Mandy; they were married at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha, on 24 September 2005. Peter, now a squadron leader, was deployed to Afghanistan for five months almost immediately after the honeymoon. In 2007 it was Peter's turn to remain at home while Mandy served in Iraq for six months, this time with the Australian Army.
