Studio portrait of 2866 Private (Pte) Walter George Brooks, 58th Battalion, of Drummoyne, NSW. A store hand prior to enlistment he embarked with the 7th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Afric (A19) on 3 November 1916. Pte Brooks was reported missing and killed in action while serving on the Wester Front on 12 May 1917, aged 20. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France.
