Description

Manuscript titled "Whatever did I do with my Life" by Sidney Frederick Liebert.. The second chapter of this manuscript relates to Liebert's service during the First World War. He enlisted in April 1916 and was posted to the new 3rd Divisional Signal Company. He quickly rose to the rank of Corporal and was in charge of one of the cable wagons and its men. He was sent to Armentieres to look after the lines which ran from the headquarters. Liebert goes into detail about the night operations; digging trenches for telephone cables on the front line. This was the action for which he was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal. In November 1918, his services were requested in London where he worked at the Australian War Records Department. He later took advantage of the education scheme offered by General Monash and was given 6 months Non-Militarily Employment Leave with 2 - 3 months employment with the Engineers' Branch of the British Post Office. 113 p
