Portrait of 12782 Leading Seaman Stoker Arthur John Richter, HMAS Sydney I, of Culcairn. He enlisted on 15 December 1920. He served on HMAS Adelaide, HMAS Swordsman, HMAS Morseby and HMAS Hobart in the intervening period. In April 1941he joined HMAS Sydney II. Richter died at sea when HMAS Sydney II was sunk in the Indian Ocean by the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran on 20 November 1941, he was 41 years of age. He was an acting Petty Officer at the time.
