Studio portrait of 3792 Private (later Corporal) Charles Elwin Hyland 4th Battalion (later 14th Field Company Australian Engineers) of Gundagai, NSW. A bridge carpenter prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Medic (A7) on 30 December 1915 Cpl Hyland died of pneumonia,on 10 February 1919, at the 5th Casualty Clearing Station, France, aged 24. He is buried in the Maubeuge (Sous-le-Bois) Cemetery, France.
