Description
Studio portrait of 473 Private (later Lance Corporal) William Redfern Rolley 1st (later 21st) Machine Gun Company of Granville, NSW. A boilermaker prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 25 October 1916. L/Cpl Rolley was accidentally burnt and admitted to hospital on 8 January 1918. He died of his injuries in the 1st Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, France on 16 January 1918, aged 34. He is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
