Studio portrait of 2718 Private (later Lance Corporal) John Douglas Black, 19th Battalion of Granville, NSW. A clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Euripides (A14) on 2 November 1915. He transferred to the 4th Battalion and was killed in action on 22 July 1916 at Pozieres Village, France, aged 19. He is buried in the Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-La Boisselle, France.
