Studio portrait of 1928A Private Harold Whiteman, 1st Pioneer Battalion of Newtown, NSW. A bricklayer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Ceramic (A40) on14 April 1916. He was wounded in action near Hamel, France on 23 August 1918 and died on 25 August 1918 at the 41st Casualty Clearing Station, France, aged 33. He is buried in the Daours Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
