Studio portrait of 5031 Private Arthur Symonds, 19th Battalion of Parramatta, NSW. A tailor prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Ajana (A31) on 5 July 1916. He died on 2 September 1917 of acute rheumatism, at the military hospital Fargo, England, aged 25. He is buried in the Durrington Cemetery, England.
