Studio portrait of 6132 Private Donald Arthur Smallmon, 21st Battalion of Parramatta, NSW. A tramways employee prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Afric (A19) on 3 November 1916. He was killed in action on 3 May 1917 during the second battle of Bullecourt, France, aged 21. Post war his body was not recovered and he is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
