Description

Studio portrait of 631 Private (Pte) Henry Austin Davey, ironmonger, of Donald Victoria. He enlisted in the 31st Battalion on 14 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Wandilla on 9 November 1915 for Suez. The battalion relocated to the Western Front, France, in June 1916. Pte Davey was wounded in action for the first time on 21 November 1916 and rejoined his unit on 6 April 1917. Pte Davey was fatally wounded in action on 20 May 1917 and died of these wounds the same day. He was aged 26 years. This image is one from a poster produced at Donald, Victoria, commemorating the deaths of soldiers associated with Donald and surrounding district during the First World War.
