Studio portrait of 3822 Private (Pte) Duncan McDonald, labourer, of Donald, Victoria. He enlisted in the 7th Battalion on 9 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ceramic on 23 November 1915 for Egypt. He suffered from illness for some weeks and was then transferred to the 57th Battalion on 4 April 1916. The battalion relocated to the Western Front, France, in June 1916. Pte McDonald was killed in action near Armentieres, France, on 15 July 1916. He was aged 25 years. This image is one from a poster produced at Donald, Victoria, commemorating the deaths of soldiers associated with Donald and surrounding district during the First World War. The poster is held at P08261.001.
