Studio portrait of 2796 Corporal (Cpl) Alexander William Scott, coachsmith, of Hamilton, Victoria. He enlisted as a Private in the 21st Battalion on 3 August 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard RMS Moldavia on 5 October 1915 for Egypt. The battalion was relocated to the Western Front, France, in March 1916 and he was promoted to Corporal on 17 August 1916. Cpl Scott died in the field of wounds received in action near Albert, France on 26 August 1916. He was aged 29 years. This image is one from a poster produced at Donald, Victoria, commemorating the deaths of soldiers associated with Donald and surrounding district during the First World War.
