Description
Studiio portrait of 5588 Private (Pte) Herbert Leslie Dunstan, contractor, of Donald, Victoria. He enlisted in the 21st Battalion on 25 March 1916 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Shropshire on 25 September 1916. He was taken on strength of the 21st Battalion on the Western Front in France on 17 January 1917. Pte Dunstan was wounded in action on 12 February 1917 and evacuated initially to Calais and then to the Military Hospital, Dover, England, where he died of these wounds on 10 April 1917. He was aged 29 years. This image is one from a poster produced at Donald, Victoria, commemorating the deaths of soldiers associated with Donald and surrounding district during the First World War. The poster is held at P08261.001.
