Description

Group portrait of members of the 36th Battalion in a training camp, probably on the Salisbury Plain in England. 2366 Private (Pte) Claude Eugene Nancarrow, 36th Battalion, is thought to be in this group. Pte Nancarrow, a 35 year old married labourer from Ourimbah, NSW, enlisted on 11 May 1916. His unit embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Borda (A30) on 17 October 1916 and he was killed in action at Passchendaele, near Ypres, Belgium on 12 October 1917. A message on the reverse of the print reads " To Ernie, Jack and Iris from Daddy", daddy being Pte Nancarrow..
