Portrait of 3342 Private (Pte) George Herlihy (alias George Hurley), 7th Battalion, of Hamilton, Victoria. A jockey prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 11th Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor on 11 October 1915. While serving in northern France, Pte Herlihy was killed in action on 11 April 1918, aged 23. He was buried at St Pierre Cemetery, Amiens.
