Description

United States issue inflatable life preserver, type B-5. Consists of two pneumatic rubber bladders (front and rear) in a yellow cotton twill outer casing, designed to be worn around the neck and tied behind the back by means of a waist strap. Each of the bladders is provided with a small toggle-activated CO2 cylinder mounted behind each lower front panel for inflating the vest. A pair of rubber tipped aluminium inflation tubes are fitted to the upper section, allowing the wearer to inflate the bladders if the cylinders fail. Behind the collar is a zipper to allow access to both bladders. The right hand side panel has a square cotton pocket secured by two press studs. The left hand side panel has a square cotton pocket, which holds a fluorescine dye marker. The front of the preserver is reinforced with two large brown leather patches.
