Studio portrait of 3209 Private (Pte) Charles Grace Andrews, 17th Battalion, of Kempsey, NSW. A mercer prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 7th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Suevic on 20 December 1915. Proceeding to France in March 1916, the 17th Battalion took part in its first major battle at Pozières between 25 July and 5 August. Pte Andrews was killed in action during the battle on 4 August 1916, aged 19. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
