Studio portrait of 2428 Private (Pte) Victor Ronald McKay, 9th Battalion, of Townsville, Qld. A gas fitter and carpenter prior to enlistment, Pte McKay embarked with the 7th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Shropshire on 20 August 1915. He transferred to the 49th Battalion and was later killed in action near Noreuil, France, on 6 April 1917, aged 21. He has no known grave and is commemorated at the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
