Description
Studio portrait of 3079 Private (Pte) Joseph Bertram Reardon, 10th Battalion, of Mundoora, SA. A farm labourer before enlisting in June 1915, Pte Reardon left Australia for Egypt with the 10th Reinforcements in September 1915 and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in April 1916. Pte Reardon was listed as missing after the 10th Battalion moved into the line near Merris, France, on 4 June 1918. According to his Red Cross Wounded and Missing Enquiry Bureau file, Pte Rearson was last seen mildly wounded from a German hand-grenade and walked to the nearest dressing station, but was never seen again. He was later listed as having been killed in action, aged 23, and has no known grave.
