Description

Reel 1. Scenes taken in Bien Hoa base are of 'A' Company 1 RAR and out in Tactical Area Of Responsibility (TAOR) and most likely filmed in 1966. Lindsay Dalton never took the movie camera out on operations. Footage includes: Base Camp for ''A' Company 1 RAR at Bien Hoa. Looking towards Bien Hoa airfield which was one of the largest airbases in South Vietnam. 21436 Lance Corporal Leslie Francis Higgins. 43389 Private Laurence Ben Domashenz. A game of Badminton. 215388 Pte Hans Peter Zerbes, left and 81872 Pte Alan Bernard Wilkes, right. 215398 Pte Ian Williams Holmes washing socks. 216186 Pte Raymond John Hughes. Camp scene. Pte Holmes again. A tent of 2 Platoon's burns down. A water tanker arrives to extinguish the fire. Pte Hughes arrives back to camp after a days leave and has acquired a bicycle from where? Pte Holmes back towards camera on looing with arms folded is 37982 Pte (later Cpl) Perry Alfred Mifsud. 215911 Pte Allan Cormack Carlon in the background with Pte Hughes wearing a white shirt. Pte Carlon tests out the bicycle. 2412088 L/Cpl Christopher Francis Webster returns from a shower. ROC Centre Vung Tau water skiing on the South China Sea. Some ringin film of a volley ball game at Nui Dat Base 1968. Mounting M113 Armoured Personnel Carriers of the Prince of Wales Light Horse Regiment. TAOR patrol from base camp to Song Dong Nai River. During the day we had local children following us. By night we laid ambushes. Song Dong River where we used to expend our old ammunition. Across the river was known as War Zone D. L/Cpl Webster fires a M72 LAW (Light Anti-Tank Weapon). Vietnamese children with Brahma bulls showing tombstones in the foreground. 54328 Sgt Colin Fawcett MM back to the camera. [Note: 54328 Sgt Colin Fawcett MM in the film who received the Military Medal for making three unsuccessful attempts to retrieve 37857 Pte Peter Raymond Gillson's body. Pte Gillson's body was found and finally returned to Australia with 213963 L/Cpl Richard Harold John Parker in June 2007 at RAAF Richmond (See film F08233)]. 3411330 Pte Raymond Walter Baldock facing camera with children. Anzac Day 1966 battle group parade. The arrival of Prime minister Harold Holt in the passenger seat of a Land Rover for Anzac Day. Anzac Day parade now over with troops returning to their lines. A cricket match with a make shift bat and a tree stump for a wicket. Roll 2 includes scenes taken around Saigon.
