Ceramic cup and saucer in plain white glaze. There is gilded decoration around the rim of both cup and saucer, as well as on the handle, and a double band around the base of the cup. A number of separate transfer decorations are applied - a black and white 'HMS Iron Duke 1914 1918' transfer is applied to both the inner face of the cup and the centre of the saucer. A black and white depiction of a Bleriot monoplane is applied to the lower portion of the saucer. A full colour transfer of a garland of flags (United States, Belgiun, England, France, Serbia and Italy) incorporating a sunray pattern, the words 'VICTORY 1914 1919' and a garland enclosing the phrase 'For Honour and Liberty' is applied to the upper portion of the saucer and on one side of the cup. A final colour transfer is applied to the other side of the cup and incorporates the words 'War Declared / Midnight / August 4th 1914 / Armistice Signed / 5 A.M. / NOv 11th 1918'. The maker's transfer appears on the base of both items, along with the registered design number (642987) and a checker's number (2107) in blue paint.
