Outdoor portrait of Corporal (Cpl) Raymond Adams, probably 40th Battalion, of Hobart, Tas. A solicitor in civilian life, Cpl Adams enlisted on 10 January 1916. On 25 July 1916 he transferred to the 12th Battalion with the rank of second lieutenant (2nd Lt), and embarked with the 21st Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Port Lincoln on 20 October 1916. 2nd Lt Adams was killed in action on 6 May 1917 at Bullecourt, France, aged 33. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
