Studio portrait of 738 Private (Pte) Joseph Machane Dodd, 26th Battalion, of Hillston, NSW. A bookeeper prior to enlistment on 2 January 1916, he embarked aboard HMAT Beltana on 13 May 1916. Following training at Larkhill Camp, England, he proceeded to the front in November. He died of wounds at the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station on 2 June 1917, aged 21 and is buried at Trois-Arbres Cemetery Steenwerck.
