Sprod, George Napier (Gunner, b.1919 - d.2003)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX34279 George Napier Sprod, 2/15 Field Regiment, 1940-1945. The collection consists of two handwritten manuscripts titled 'Lady Soldiers' and 'Action at Last', one typed manuscript titled 'No Hate, Mate?', a photocopied letter, eight cartoon sketches, and one photocopied cartoon.
The manuscripts record Sprod's post-war reminiscences about first meeting members of the women's services, about the Battle of Singapore, and about the release of prisoners of war from Changi. The photocopied letter describes Sprod's time interned at Changi. The cartoon sketches are a satirical commentary of Sprod's experiences of Anzac Day. The photocopied cartoon depicts Sprod holding a jar in which a Japanese head is preserved, as described in the manuscript 'No Hate, Mate?'.
