Studio portrait of 3395 Private (Pte) Thomas Patrick Rooney, 5th Battalion, of Northcote, Vic. A mail driver prior to enlistment, Pte Rooney embarked on board HMAT Nestor on 11 October 1915. He served with the 59th Battalion in France and was wounded in action on 19 July 1916 at Fromelles. Pte Rooney died of his wounds at the Fort Pitt Military Hospital in Chatham, England, on 16 November 1916. He was 21 years of age.
