Studio portrait of 5105 Private (Pte) Ernest Walter Hill, 13th Battalion, of Mascot, NSW. An engine cleaner before enlisting on 29 December 1915, Pte Hill embarked from Sydney on HMAT Star of Victoria on 31 March 1916 with the 16th Reinforcements. He was killed in action at Guedecourt, France on 4 February 1917; he was hit by a shell while in the front line trench. He was 25 years old.
