Description

Studio portrait of Private (Pte) Walter Robins DCM, 11th Battalion, of Albany, WA. A butcher before enlisting on 3 May 1915, Pte Robins embarked from Fremantle on HMAT Geelong on 6 June 1915 with the 6th Reinforcements. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his actions on 20 September 1917, when, with 6703 Pte William Ambrose Wilkins, he captured a German machine gun during the attack east of Ypres. He was killed in action on 13 May 1918 at the age of 27.
