Studio portrait of Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt) Robert James Gordon Melville, 4th Battalion, of Marrickville, NSW. A law clerk prior to enlistment 2nd Lt Melville embarked with the 14th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Wandilla on 3 February 1916. On 27 September 1916 he died in France, aged 22, of injuries accidentally received in bombing practice.
