Studio portrait of 1186 Private (Pte) Sidney Drane, 1st Battalion, of Darlinghurst, NSW. A driver prior to enlistment, Pte Drane embarked on HMAT Themistocles (A32) with the 1st Reinforcements on 22 December 1914. He served with the 1st Battalion at Gallipoli, and later with the 53rd Battalion on the Western Front. Pte Drane was killed by shell fire on the evening of 19 July 1916 during an attack on the German lines at Fromelles. He was 33 years of age.
